RPNAO Hosts First-Ever Facebook Live Discussion and Q&A

Online event focused on how RPNs, RNs and NPs are stronger together.

On May 30, WeRPN broke new ground when it hosted a one-hour Facebook Live discussion featuring representatives from all three categories of nursing. The live online event was the first of its kind for the association and, based on the incredible reaction and response from our community, it will be the first of many to come.

The discussion and Q&A session featured Marnee Wilson, President of the Nurse Practitioner’s Asso-ciation of Ontario; Mary McAllister, representing Registered Nurses who are independent members of the Canadian Nurses Association living in Ontario, known as CNAOntario; and Dianne Martin, CEO of WeRPN. Our association’s own Director of Mar-keting, Craig Swatuk, served as the moderator of the event.

Callout: “This was the first time we were hosting a live event like this and wedidn’t really know what to expect in terms of response, but the community really came through in terms of viewership, submitting questions, interacting during the event, sharing comments and more.”

“We were absolutely delighted with the level and quality of engage-ment for the Facebook Live event,” said Martin. “This was the first time we were hosting a live event like this and we didn’t really know what to expect in terms of response, but the community really came through in terms of viewership, submitting questions, interacting during the event, sharing comments and more.”

To-date, the discussion and Q&A, which is still available to be viewed on WeRPN’s Facebook page, has been viewed more than 5,500 times. “We did this because our members had asked us for it,” said Martin. “Having representatives from the various categories of nursing at the same table, talking about how we are truly stronger together, was a great demonstration of intra-profes-sional collaboration.”

In the lead-up to the live broadcast, WeRPN received dozens of questions from all categories of nurse and other audience members, in addition to a number of questions that came in live during the event.

“Based on the popularity of this first event, we will definitely continue to connect with our members and the nursing profession this way,” said Martin. “And I would like to take this opportunity to once again recognize and thank Marnee Wilson and Mary McAllister for taking part in this event and for demonstrating their shared commitment and dedi-cation to collaboration in nursing.”
